Tonight will be mostly clear and seasonably cold. temperatures will fall to around 20 degrees by late evening; overnight low temperatures will fall to the middle to upper teens.
A large winter storm will approach on Saturday, leading to increasing clouds and milder high temperatures in the lower 30s. The current track of the heaviest snowfall should be just to the south of Wisconsin. Snow will develop across the area Saturday night as conditions become windy and low temperatures drop into the upper teens. Snow will continue on Sunday morning before tapering to flurries and ending in the afternoon. Total snow accumulations of 2-6" are possible with this system, with the highest amounts near the Wisconsin/Illinois border. It will be windy and colder with high temperatures near 20 degrees early, then temperatures will hold steady or fall into the teens in the afternoon.
By Monday, very cold weather will return to Wisconsin. Skies will be ! partly sunny, but it will be quite cold. Wind chills may be as cold as -5 to -15 early Monday morning with low temperatures starting around zero. High temperatures will only make it to the middle teens.
Two fast moving weather systems will then move through the area Monday night and Tuesday afternoon, bringing light snow and a brief moderation in temperatures. High temperatures on Tuesday will be in the middle 20s. Light snow and flurries will continue into Wednesday morning before ending, and it will become windy and much colder with high temperatures near 20 degrees early, with temperatures falling in the afternoon.
Thursday will be mostly sunny, but bitterly cold with low temperatures in the single digits below zero and high temperatures in the lower to middle teens. Wind chills will be as cold as -20 Thursday morning. Friday will be partly sunny and not as cold with high temperatures reaching the lower to middle 20s.
For next weekend, Satu! rday will be breezy and milder with high temperatures jumping into the middle 30s. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a chance for rain and snow late in the day. The precipitation may change to light snow, sleet, or freezing rain Saturday night as temperatures fall below freezing. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a chance for light snow and high temperatures near 30 degrees.
