New Year's Day won't be as cold; skies will become increasingly cloudy, and there's a chance for a flurry in the afternoon. High temperatures will reach the upper 20s. Any flurries should end Thursday evening. Friday will be partly sunny and seasonably cold with high temperatures in the middle 20s.
A storm system will head northeastward toward the Midwest for the weekend. Skies will become mostly cloudy on Saturday with light snow developing in the afternoon, possibly mixed with rain for a brief period south of Madison. It will become breezy with high temperatures reaching the lower 30s. Several inches of snow accumulation are possible for Saturday night. The storm will head east on Sunday, with windy and much colder weather following in its wake. Snow will taper to flurries early in the day and come to an end. Skies will become partly sunny Sunday afternoon. High temperatures will reach the lower teens early, but temperatures will fall into the ! single digits during the day.
As skies clear Sunday night, bitterly cold air arrives with low temperatures falling into the single digits below zero, and wind chills dropping to as low as -30 by Monday morning. Clouds will increase again on Monday as another weather system approaches Wisconsin, with high temperatures only reaching the upper single digits. Snow will develop late Monday afternoon or Monday night, continuing into Tuesday before tapering to flurries. Some accumulation is possible. It will turn windy and colder by Tuesday afternoon with high temperatures near 10 degrees before temperatures fall back through the single digits in the afternoon.
Bitterly cold air that may be the coldest of the season arrives Tuesday night. As skies clear, but winds remain brisk over the fresh snow cover, temperatures may nosedive to -10 or colder, with wind chills around -30 by Wednesday morning. Wednesday will be mostly sunny, but still breezy and bitterly co! ld with high temperatures only reaching the middle single digits.
