It will be mostly sunny, but extremely cold today with temperatures that will struggle to rise to zero by this afternoon. This morning's low temperatures will fall to around -10 with wind chills from -25 to -35. Exposed skin may develop frostbite in about 10 minutes with wind chills that cold.

This afternoon will still be mostly sunny, windy, and dangerously cold as well with high temperatures staying in the single digits below zero, and wind chills remaining from -15 to -30 during the day. Tonight will again be dangerously cold with mostly clear skies and temperatures falling into the middle teens below zero by early Thursday. Wind chills will be as cold as -40 by early Thursday morning.  

Thursday will become mostly cloudy and windy with snow showers or flurries developing by the afternoon. It will remain bitterly cold with high temperatures in the upper single digits, but wind chills will range from -5 to -20. The snow will end on T! hursday evening, then it will be partly cloudy, breezy, and bitterly cold by early Friday morning, with low temperatures between -5 and -10, and wind chills from -20 to -30, Friday will be partly sunny, windy, and bitterly cold again; high temperatures will only reach the lower single digits.

We should begin to come out of the deep freeze over the weekend. It will still be bitterly cold Saturday morning with low temperatures near -10 and wind chills from -15 to -25, but Saturday will be partly sunny and not as bitter cold with high temperatures near 10 and wind chills just below zero. Sunday will be partly sunny and not quite as cold with low temperatures near zero and high temperatures near 20.

A slow moderation in temperatures will continue early next week. Monday will be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 20s and Tuesday and Wednesday will be partly sunny with seasonably cold highs in the mid to upper 20s. Another chance of snow will develop on Th! ursday.

A WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect until 9 AM Thursday morning for eastern Iowa, and northwestern Illinois. In Iowa, this includes the counties of DELAWARE and DUBUQUE. In Illinois, this includes the counties of JO DAVIESS and STEPHENSON.

A WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect until noon Thursday for north-central and northeastern Illinois, including the counties of WINNEBAGO, BOONE, and McHENRY (this includes the Rockford and Chicago metropolitan areas).
