A major winter storm will start to wind down over southern Wisconsin by late afternoon and early evening. It will be mostly cloudy, windy, and colder with occasional snow, still heavy at times in areas southeast of Madison early this afternoon, tapering off to flurries late in the day. Total snowfall amounts will be 3-6" for areas north of Madison and 6-10" for areas south of Madison. Blowing and drifting snow will be a problem, especially in rural areas. Temperatures will continue to fall through the teens.
Flurries will end early tonight, then skies will become partly cloudy. Winds will gradually diminish overnight, but blowing and drifting snow may still be a problem through this evening, especially in areas to the east and southeast of Madison. Low temperatures will fall to near zero, with wind chills dropping to -10 to -20 by morning.
By Monday, very cold weather will return to Wisconsin. Skies will be partly sunny, but it will be quit! e cold. High temperatures will only make it to the middle teens. On Monday night, skies will become mostly cloudy, and a few flurries will develop. Temperatures will fall to the upper single digits before climbing back into the teens overnight.
On Tuesday, skies will be mostly cloudy. Flurries will end early in the day, but light snow will develop later in the afternoon. It won't be as cold as high temperatures will be in the lower to middle 20s. There may be some minor snow accumulations on Tuesday night before the snow tapers to flurries toward Wednesday morning. Any flurries will end early on Wednesday morning, before skies become partly sunny. However, it will become windy and turni colder again with highs in the middle teens, with temperatures falling in the afternoon.
Thursday will be partly sunny, but very cold with low temperatures in the single digits below zero and high temperatures in the middle teens. Wind chills will be as cold as -10 to -20! Thursday morning. Friday will be partly sunny, breezy and not as cold with high temperatures reaching the lower to middle 20s.
For next weekend, Saturday will become mostly cloudy, breezy and a little milder with high temperatures climbing into the lower to middle 30s. There is a chance for light snow, possibly mixed with rain late in the day. Sunday will be variably cloudy with a chance for snow showers and flurries; high temperatures will top out near 30 degrees.
