After a bitterly cold start today, abundant sunshine will push highs into the mid to upper teens this afternoon. Tonight will be bitterly cold once again with low temperatures falling into the middle single digits below zero, but with light winds, wind chills should not be much of a factor.
Temperatures should moderate a little this weekend, but should still stay well below normal. Saturday will be partly sunny and not quite as cold with high temperatures near 20 degrees. Low pressure will develop in the southern Plains on Saturday and move toward the Midwest, bringing light snow or flurries to southern Wisconsin from late Saturday night through Sunday with minor accumulations possible. Highs will reach the middle 20s on Sunday.
Monday will be partly sunny and cold with high temperatures near 30 degrees. A strong area of low pressure will develop to our southwest, and move through or just north of southern Wisconsin on Tuesday. Skies will ! turn mostly cloudy on Monday night, and a mix of light snow, sleet, and freezing rain will develop, but will change to rain and isolated thunderstorms on Tuesday as temperatures climb above freezing early in the day, rising to the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon. A cold front will sweep through Wisconsin late in the day, causing temperatures fall again Tuesday evening, changing rain to a possible period of freezing rain and eventually back to snow before tapering to flurries overnight into early Wednesday morning.
Much colder air will continue to sweep through Wisconsin on Wednesday. Skies will gradually clear out, but it will be breezy and after a high in the lower 20s early in the day, temperatures will slowly fall in the afternoon. Skies will turn mostly clear and it will turn bitterly cold on Wednesday night, with low temperatures falling to the middle single digits below zero and wind chills from -10 to -20. Thursday will be partly sunny and very cold aga! in with highs in the mid to upper teens.
Temperatures will moderate quickly on Friday, with partly sunny skies and breezy conditions. High temperatures will climb back to the mid 30s. Saturday will be partly sunny with highs near 40.
