As a low pressure system heads into the upper Midwest on Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop. At this time it appears there will be two distinct rounds of thunderstorms. One will move through around midday with very little severe potential and another will develop later in the afternoon into the evening, which holds the potential for severe storms will high winds, large hail and possible tornadoes. The strength of these later storms will depend on the amount of sunshine in the afternoon after the first round moves through. It will be windy, warm and humid with highs near 80. Any showers and thunderstorms will end Sunday night as a cold front moves through.

Much of next week will be dry, with slightly below normal temperatures. Monday will be partly sunny, breezy, and cooler with high temperatures in the lower 70s. Tuesday will be mostly sunny and cool with highs in the lower to middle 60s. Wednesday will be partly sunny and pleasant with high temperatures in the middle 60s as well. Thursday will remain pleasant with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the upper 60s. Sunshine will stick around for Friday as well with high temperatures near 70.

The Memorial Day weekend will start out dry, but rain may dampen things on Sunday and Monday. Saturday will be partly sunny and pleasant with high temperatures in the lower 70s. As a storm system arrives for Sunday and Memorial Day Monday, shower and thunderstorm chances will return along with mostly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the middle 70s.

NOTES:
There is a SLIGHT RISK for severe thunderstorms on Sunday and Sunday eastern Wisconsin and Illinois and an ENHANCED RISK for severe thunderstorms for the western two thirds of Wisconsin, western Illinois, and far eastern Iowa and Minnesota. A low pressure system in the central Plains will move through the Midwest on Sunday, bringing a cold front across Wisconsin by evening. A line of thunderstorms will move through Wisconsin during the late morning and early afternoon, and possibly redevelop later in the afternoon into the evening. Warm and moderately humid air flowing into the Midwest along with strong wind fields may interact with earlier thunderstorms and the cold front and lead to a few severe thunderstorms, especially if the sun comes out for a time in the afternoon. High winds and hail are the main threats, although isolated tornadoes will be possible. The severe weather threat should end with the passage of the cold front on Sunday night.
