NOTES:
The Storm Prediction Center says that there is an ENHANCED RISK for severe thunderstorms for this afternoon and tonight for the southeastern third of Iowa, and northwestern Illinois. There is a SLIGHT RISK for severe thunderstorms for the rest of the southeastern two-thirds of Iowa, the rest of the northern third of Illinois, and extreme southwestern Wisconsin (south of a La Crosse to Beloit line). There is a MARGINAL RISK for severe thunderstorms across southeastern Minnesota, much of the rest of Iowa, much of the rest of northern Illinois, and the rest of the southern half of Wisconsin. Warm and increasingly humid air will be over the central Midwest on Saturday. A cold front will move from Minnesota Saturday afternoon into Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois Saturday night. Thunderstorms will form along the cold front, a few of which may become severe. Hail and high winds are the main threats, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially as severe thunderstorms develop in Iowa. The severe weather threat will end with the passage of the cold front Saturday night.
There is an ENHANCED RISK for severe thunderstorms on Monday and Monday night for much of central and parts of southern Wisconsin (south of an Eau Claire to Wausau to Door County line and north of a La Crosse to Beaver Dam to Milwaukee line). There is a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms for the southeastern third of Minnesota, northeastern Iowa, extreme northern Illinois, and the rest of Wisconsin, with a MARGINAL RISK for severe thunderstorms for most of the rest of Minnesota, the rest of Iowa, and the rest of the northern half of Illinois. A warm front will lift northward through the central Midwest on Monday morning, followed by a cold front moving from Minnesota into Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois on Monday afternoon and night. Warm and humid air will lead to an unstable atmosphere, and strong wind fields and wind shear will be present as well. Thunderstorms are likely in the vicinity of both fronts, some of which may become severe. Hail, high winds, and a few tornadoes are possible, with the potential for an isolated strong tornado and a possibility for more widespread damaging winds to occur, especially over central Wisconsin. The severe weather threat will end with the passage of the cold front Monday night.
