NOTES:
The Storm Prediction Center says that there is a SLIGHT RISK for a few severe thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night over southeastern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa, and all of Wisconsin. There is a MARGINAL RISK for isolated severe thunderstorms for today and tonight for the rest of the southeastern half of Minnesota, the rest of of Iowa, and the northwestern half of Illinois. Very warm to hot and quite humid air will be in place across much of the upper Midwest on Saturday. Early morning thunderstorms may produce a weak outflow boundary over a portion of the area, but clearing skies will allow temperatures to warm quickly during the day, and may wash out the boundary. A low pressure system will move north of Lakes Superior on Saturday, allowing a cold front to enter Minnesota late in the day. As the cold front heads to the southeast Saturday night, thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of it. In addition, if the outflow boundary is still present, thunderstorms may develop along it. High winds, hail, and heavy rain are the main threats, although an isolated tornado may be possible where thunderstorms initially develop on Saturday afternoon or early Saturday evening. The threat for severe weather should end with the passage of the cold front later Saturday night.
