It will be variably cloudy, windy and warm this afternoon with high temperatures in the lower 80s. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible, mainly west of Madison. Tonight will be mostly cloudy and mild with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely. There is a potential for a few strong to severe thunderstorms, with the severe weather threat ending with the passage of the cold front early Friday morning.

On Friday, any showers and thunderstorms will move out early in the morning, but another round should develop later in the day or overnight. The rest of the day will be variably cloudy and cooler with high temperatures in the middle to upper 70s.

Showers will move east of Wisconsin early on Saturday morning. Skies will become mostly sunny later in the day with high temperatures only reaching the upper 60s. After a chilly night with temperatures falling into the middle 40s, mostly sunny skies are expected on Sunday. High temperatures will be back to the lower 70s.

Nice weather will continue into early next week. Monday will be mostly sunny and pleasant with high temperatures in the middle 70s. Tuesday will be partly sunny and very mild with high temperatures in the upper 70s. Wednesday will be partly sunny and continued very mild with highs in the upper 70s.

NOTES:
The Storm Prediction Center says that there is a SLIGHT RISK for severe thunderstorms today and tonight across southeastern Minnesota, central and eastern Iowa, and most of Wisconsin (south and west of a line from Hayward to Shawano to Madison to Monroe). There is a MARGINAL RISK for severe thunderstorms for most of the rest of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin along with northwestern Illinois.

Unseasonably warm air along with increasing humidity will be found over the upper Midwest today. An advancing cold front moving through Minnesota will move into Iowa and Wisconsin in the afternoon, reaching southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois later tonight. Thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the cold front. Rather strong wind fields at all levels of the atmosphere mean that a few severe thunderstorms are possible, with hail and high winds being the main threats, although an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out. The severe weather threat will diminish with the loss of heating later tonight, and should end with the passage of the cold front early Friday morning.
