In addition, there is a SLIGHT RISK for severe thunderstorms across rest of the southern half of Iowa, the rest of Illinois, and extreme southern Wisconsin (south of a Prairie du Chien to Janesville to Kenosha line); and a MARGINAL RISK for severe thunderstorms for extreme southeastern Minnesota, the rest of Iowa, and the rest of the southern half of Wisconsin (south of a Rochester, MN to Wausau to Green Bay line). A developing strong storm system will track from Kansas through Iowa and into southern Wisconsin by tonight. Mild and increasingly humid air will be transported northward on strong southerly winds into the central Midwest ahead of the storm. A cold front will swing eastward from Iowa into Wisconsin and Illinois from late this afternoon into tonight as the storm moves through southern Wisconsin. Thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the cold front, and some may become severe, especially from southern Iowa into Illinois, where there is a threat for a few tornadoes, high winds, and hail. Farther northward into northern Iowa and southern Wisconsin, the main threat will be from high winds, and perhaps some hail. The severe weather threat will end with the passage of the cold front tonight.
