NOTES:

A WIND ADVISORY has been issued from 6 PM until 3 AM Thursday morning for north-central and northeastern Illinois, including the counties of WINNEBAGO, BOONE, and McHENRY (this includes the Rockford and Chicago metropolitan areas).

A WIND ADVISORY has been issued from 8 PM until 6 AM Thursday morning for southeastern, east-central, and part of south-central Wisconsin, including the counties of MARQUETTE, GREEN LAKE, COLUMBIA, DODGE, DANE, JEFFERSON, LAFAYETTE, GREEN, ROCK, and WALWORTH (this includes the Madison and Milwaukee metropolitan areas).

The Storm Prediction Center says that there is an ENHANCED RISK for severe thunderstorms for tonight for southeastern Illinois, as well as a SLIGHT RISK for severe thunderstorms over extreme eastern Iowa, the rest of Illinois, and extreme southern Wisconsin (south of a Dubuque, IA to Madison to Milwaukee line), and MARGINAL RISK for severe thunderstorms across the rest of eastern Iowa, and the rest of the southeastern half of Wisconsin (south and east of a Prairie du Chien to Wisconsin Dells to Marinette, MI line).

A strong low pressure system will move from northern Missouri to northern Wisconsin by early Thursday morning. South to southeasterly winds ahead of the storm is bringing humid and unseasonably mild air northward with record or near record breaking temperatures in the 50s and 60s. A cold front will pivot eastward through Iowa and Illinois into Wisconsin as the low pressure system moves through western Wisconsin this evening. A little clearing has developed ahead of the cold front which may destabilize the atmosphere a little further. Thunderstorms along and just ahead of the cold front will move through the central Midwest into this evening. Strong wind shear and high winds aloft could cause thunderstorms to rotate. High winds will be the main threat from these thunderstorms, although isolated tornadoes may also be possible, especially where temperatures can reach the middle to upper 50s or warmer, mainly across northern Illinois. The severe weather threat will end with the passage of the cold front. However, strong winds are expected along and behind the cold front outside of thunderstorms; these winds could gust to 40 to 50 MPH later tonight and early on Thursday morning.
