The major winter storm will slowly wind down overnight. This evening will be mostly cloudy and very windy with occasional snow. The snow may be mixed for a time with sleet and freezing rain, mainly south and southeast of Madison. Winds could gust to 45 MPH this evening.
Overnight, the snow will diminish to snow showers and flurries, and winds should begin to diminish as well. Temperatures will hold nearly steady in the 20s to near 30 degrees through the night. Total snowfall will range from as much as a foot near Wisconsin Dells to around 6 inches near Madison to around 3 inches southeast of Janesville.
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and cold with snow showers diminishing to flurries and some freezing drizzle. High temperatures will be in the lower 30s. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy and seasonably cold with snow showers and flurries and high temperatures in the upper 20s.
New Year's Eve will be variably cloudy, breezy, and seasonably cold with high temperatures in the middle 20s; temperatures will be in the middle teens around midnight to ring in the new year. The first day of 2016 will be partly sunny, breezy, and cold as well with high temperatures in the lower 20s.
Quiet and seasonably cold weather is expected for the first weekend of the New Year. Saturday will be partly sunny, breezy, and continued cold with high temperatures in the middle 20s. Sunday will be partly sunny and seasonably cold with high temperatures near 30 degrees. Monday will be partly sunny and pleasant for this time of year with high temperatures in the middle 30s.
