NOTES:
The Storm Prediction Center says that there is a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms for tonight over southwestern Minnesota and western Iowa, and a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for the rest of the southern third of Minnesota, central and northeastern Iowa, and west-central Wisconsin (west of a Minneapolis, MN to Marshfield to Tomah to Prairie du Chien line). A low pressure system over South Dakota has a stationary front extending to the east into central Wisconsin, and a cold front extending southward into central Nebraska. With mild and increasingly humid air developing south of the stationary front and east of the cold front, thunderstorms are possible near both fronts tonight. A few severe thunderstorms with hail, high winds, and isolated tornadoes are possible near the cold front this evening over western Iowa. These storms will weaken as they push eastward into central and northeastern Iowa overnight, with hail and gusty winds being the main threats. An isolated severe thunderstorm may be possible near the stationary front from southern Minnesota into west-central Wisconsin overnight, with gusty winds and hail being the main threats.
There is a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for Monday and Monday night for extreme eastern Iowa, the northern third of Illinois, and the southern quarter of Wisconsin (south of a Prairie du Chien to Portage to Port Washington line). As the low pressure system moves from South Dakota into Wisconsin and the cold front moves through Iowa into southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois on Monday afternoon, mild and somewhat humid air will be unstable enough to allow isolated severe thunderstorms to possibly develop in Monday afternoon, with hail and gusty winds being the main threats. The severe weather threat will end with the passage of the cold front Monday night.
