The Storm Prediction Center says that there is a SLIGHT RISK for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday and Wednesday night across southeastern Iowa, and western Illinois, and a MARGINAL RISK for severe thunderstorms across the rest of the southeastern two-thirds of Iowa, the rest of Illinois, and far southwestern Wisconsin (south of a Prairie du Chien to Lake Geneva line). A low pressure system in the Plains will move eastward toward Wisconsin, with a cold front moving through Wisconsin and northern Illinois on Wednesday night. Mild and somewhat humid air ahead of the cold front will support thunderstorm development along and ahead of the cold front on Wednesday afternoon and evening. A few severe thunderstorms are possible, with the main threats being hail and high winds. The greatest severe weather threat will stay south of Wisconsin, but an isolated severe thunderstorm may be possible from late Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening over the far southwestern portion of the state, where the atmosphere will be a little more unstable. The severe weather threat will end with the passage of the cold front on Wednesday night.
