NOTES:
The Storm Prediction Center says that there is a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms today and tonight for all of Minnesota and Iowa, the northwestern third of Illinois, and all of Wisconsin. A warm and increasingly humid air mass will cover much of the Midwest beginning today and lasting through Memorial Day. A weakening line of thunderstorms from Monday night moving through Wisconsin this afternoon may develop a little more, with isolated strong to severe thunderstorms possible; hail and high winds would be the main threats. The severe weather threat should lessen as the thunderstorms weaken and move eastward this evening.
There is a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms for Wednesday and Wednesday night for the western half of Iowa, and extreme west-central Illinois, and a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for most of Minnesota (except for the far north), the rest of Iowa, the rest of Illinois, and the western third of Wisconsin (south of a Superior to Eau Claire to Janesville line). Very mild to warm and humid air will continue across the Midwest on Wednesday. A storm system developing in Kansas will move to northwestern Minnesota by Wednesday night. Thunderstorms from tonight in the Plains may continue into the central Midwest on Wednesday. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible from Minnesota through much of Wisconsin into northern Illinois, with hail and high winds being the main threats. Little more widespread severe thunderstorm activity is expected in to southern Iowa and central and southern Illinois, where warmer temperatures should lead to more instability, and where there may be the threat for a few tornadoes.
It is possible there will be a daily threat for at least isolated severe thunderstorms into the weekend. The actual threat may be refined more when it becomes apparent where the best chance of thunderstorms development will be on a given day.
