NOTES:
The Storm Prediction Center says that there is an ENHANCED RISK of severe thunderstorms for tonight for southwestern and south-central Minnesota, and the western third of Iowa, and a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms for the rest of the southern two-thirds of Minnesota, the central third of Iowa, and northwestern and west-central Wisconsin (west of a Superior to Phillips to La Crosse line), and a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for most of the northern third of Minnesota, the rest of Iowa, and the rest of a the northwestern three-quarters of Wisconsin (west of a Darlington to Beaver Dam to Manitowoc line). A warm front extends from southwestern Minnesota into central Wisconsin. Thunderstorms will develop near and south of the warm front in southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa moving eastward through the night. High winds, hail, and heavy rainfall will be the main threats. The thunderstorms should be weakening as they approach southern Wisconsin by morning; however, an isolated severe thunderstorm may still be possible.
There is a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms for Tuesday and Tuesday night for the southeastern half of Iowa, the northwestern half of Illinois, and the southeastern half of Wisconsin (south and east of a La Crosse to Wausau to Iron Mountain, MI line), and a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for the rest of the southeastern two-thirds of Iowa, the rest of the northern three-quarters of Illinois, and the rest of the southeastern two-thirds of Wisconsin (south and east of a Winona, MN to Eagle River line). The severe thunderstorm threat may be highly dependent on how long cloud cover and precipitation linger from the late Monday night thunderstorms. Assuming the clouds thin out by late morning and afternoon allowing temperatures to reach the middle to the upper 80s, thunderstorms may develop along and ahead of a slow-moving cold front from northern Wisconsin into Minnesota. A few of these thunderstorms may become severe, with high winds, hail, and heavy rainfall being the main threats as they move from Wisconsin and Iowa into Illinois on Tuesday night.
There is a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms for Wednesday and Wednesday night for extreme southeastern Minnesota, all of Iowa, the northern two-thirds of Illinois, and the southern half of Wisconsin (south of a Rochester, MN to Stevens Point to Green Bay line, and a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for the rest of the southeastern quarter of Minnesota, the rest of the northern three-quarters of Illinois, and the rest of the southeastern three-quarters of Wisconsin (south of a Rice lake to eagle River line). A cold front passing through central Wisconsin to central Iowa will move through the rest of southern Wisconsin on Wednesday night. With very warm and humid air in place ahead of the front, and a weather disturbance arriving from the west, thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the cold front from eastern Iowa into western Wisconsin, moving eastward into southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. A few severe thunderstorms are possible, with high winds, hail, and heavy rainfall as the main threats, although isolated tornadoes may be possible where thunderstorm develop initially takes place.
