As an increasingly hot and humid air mass develops over the center of the country, thunderstorms should develop on the edge of the heat in the Dakotas and western Minnesota by late Tuesday afternoon and evening, possibly heading southeastward into Iowa, western Illinois, and western Wisconsin overnight. Isolated severe thunderstorms may be possible, with high winds, hail and heavy rainfall as the main threats.

There is a MARGINAL RISK of severe thunderstorms for Wednesday and Wednesday night all but far southwestern Minnesota, the northeastern half of Iowa, the northern half of Illinois, and all of Wisconsin. As the hot and humid air expands to the north and east, the area for potential thunderstorm development will also shift to the north and east. Thunderstorms may be possible early on Wednesday morning from southern Minnesota and Iowa into western Wisconsin and western Illinois. Additional thunderstorms may develop by late Wednesday afternoon and evening from northern Minnesota into eastern Iowa and Wisconsin, heading southeastward into Illinois by later Wednesday night. Isolated severe thunderstorms may also be possible, with high winds, hail, and heavy rainfall as the main threats.
