Officials at odds over Milwaukee park near scene of unrest

MILWAUKEE -- A judge has ruled that a Milwaukee park at the center of a neighborhood where riots erupted after a police shooting last month can return to its normal hours for now.
The ruling came Sunday during a special session held to deal with a dispute between the county's sheriff and top executive.
County Executive Chris Abele announced Sherman Park would return to its full operating hours, which had been limited since the fatal shooting of Sylville Smith. Abele also ordered the removal of a fence the sheriff's department had erected.
But Sheriff David Clarke ordered deputies to replace the fence and said anyone who refused to leave the park after its earlier closing time would be arrested -- including Abele.
They took the issue to court, where WTMJ-TV reports the judge ruled the park can return to normal hours and the fence must stay down until another hearing Wednesday.

Edgerton police lieutenant loses pay but won't be prosecuted

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- An Edgerton police lieutenant who punched a hole in a wall during a family disagreement and was arrested for domestic battery lost five days' pay but wasn't prosecuted and was reinstated instead.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that public records provide new details about the case involving the department's second-highest-ranking officer, Lt. Randy Meehan. Family members told investigators he had a history of threatening behavior and comments while drinking.
But the Dane County District Attorney's Office declined to prosecute the case back in April, and Edgerton Police Chief Rom Klubertanz reinstated Meehan the same day.
The district attorney did not return a call asking why he declined to prosecute. The police chief declined to comment, while Meehan did not respond to the newspaper's request for comment.

Wisconsin shocks No. 5 LSU, 16-14

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Rafael Gaglianone kicked a 47-yard field goal with 3:47 left, and Wisconsin staved off No. 5 LSU's desperate last-ditch drive for a 16-14 win on Saturday in a game that dealt an early blow to the fifth-ranked Tigers' national title hopes.
LSU's frustration was on full display at the end of the game, when offensive lineman Josh Boutte was ejected for a flagrant foul after a vicious blind-side hit on Wisconsin's D'Cota Dixon after the safety sealed the win with an interception with 57 seconds left.
Wisconsin's defense delivered in the clutch to back up the strong-legged Gaglianone.
Heisman Trophy hopeful Leonard Fournette ran for 138 yards on 23 carries but limped off on his final carry, a 15-yard run with less than 2 minutes left.
Les Miles' first loss in a season opener in his 12 years as LSU coach will surely put him back on the dreaded hot seat. He was nearly run out of Baton Rouge after a 9-3 season in 2015.
The Badgers play their first game at Camp Randall Stadium by hosting Akron on Sept. 10.
