A winter storm will affect southern Wisconsin tonight through Sunday morning with snow, wind, and eventually another blast of bitterly cold weather. Snow will continue tonight with accumulation by Saturday morning of 3-6". Temperatures will be nearly steady in the upper teens.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy and will become windy with heavier snow redeveloping late in the morning through the afternoon; additional snow accumulation of 2-4 inches is likely during the day for storm total accumulations of 6-11 inches or more, with the highest amounts north and east of Madison and the lowest amounts over southwestern Wisconsin. High temperatures will be near 20 degrees again, but that will be early in the day as temperatures will hold steady or slowly fall through the rest of the afternoon. Blowing snow will be possible from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Any flurries will end Saturday night, with some clearing toward morning. Lows will drop near -10 and winds will be breezy, leading to winds chills between -20 and -35.

Sunday will be mostly sunny, breezy early, and bitterly cold. High temperatures will be near zero or slightly below zero, and wind chills will range from -10 to -20 through the day.

Monday will be partly sunny, windy and not quite as cold. Low temperatures will drop to the single digits below zero with wind chills between -10 and -20. High temperatures will be in the middle to upper teens.

Temperatures should begin to moderate for the middle of the week. Tuesday will be partly sunny, windy, and a little milder with high temperatures around 30 degrees. Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a chance of some light snow or flurries as a low passes to our north. Highs will remain near 30.

Thursday will be variably cloudy and breezy with a chance of flurries and highs in the upper 20s. Friday with be partly sunny and should become breezy as high temperatures climb to the middle 30s.

The Christmas weekend will start with partly sunny skies on Christmas eve and highs in the lower to middle 30s. On Christmas day, it will be mostly cloudy and breezy with light snow, sleet and rain possible. Highs will remain in the lower to middle 30s.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect until 9 PM Saturday evening for west-central, east-central, south-central, and southeastern Wisconsin, including the counties of JUNEAU, ADAMS, MARQUETTE, GREEN LAKE, SAUK, COLUMBIA, DODGE, IOWA, DANE, JEFFERSON, LAFAYETTE, GREEN, ROCK, and WALWORTH (this includes the Madison and Milwaukee metropolitan areas).

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect until midnight early Sunday morning for eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois. In Iowa, this includes the counties of DELAWARE and DUBUQUE. In Illinois, this includes the counties of JO DAVIESS and STEPHENSON.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect until 6 AM Sunday morning for north-central and northeastern Illinois, including the counties of WINNEBAGO, BOONE, and McHENRY (this includes the Rockford and Chicago metropolitan areas).
