High pressure will build across the region tonight and for the first part of Monday with bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills. Tonight will be mostly clear with temperatures falling to near 10 degrees below zero. Winds will be breezy this evening, but will diminish slightly overnight. Wind chills will range from -15 to -30 through the night. Monday will be increasingly cloudy as high pressure moves east and a low pressure system drops out of the northwest. The low pressure system will move just south of Wisconsin, bringing snow to the southern part of the state Monday night. Snow accumulations of 2-6 inches will be possible, with the highest totals in southwest Wisconsin. Highs on Monday will only reach the middle single digits, and wind chills will remain in the double digits below zero through the day.
Any lingering snow showers or flurries will end early Tuesday morning with clearing skies for the remainder of the day. Highs on Tuesday ! will stay in the upper single digits, and wind chills will be close to zero. Winds will increase on Tuesday with blowing and drifting of the fluffy snow.
The coldest air of the season may arrive Tuesday night. Low temperatures will nosedive to around -12 by Wednesday morning, with dangerously cold wind chills as low as -40 a possibility. Wednesday will be mostly sunny, but still windy and bitterly cold with high temperatures staying below zero and wind chills as cold as -30 even during the afternoon.
Thursday will become mostly cloudy with a chance for snow showers or flurries, mainly during the afternoon. Morning temperatures will be in the lower teens below zero with wind chills ranging from -25 to -40. High temperatures on Thursday afternoon will be near 10 degrees. Friday will be partly sunny and cold with highs in the upper single digits. Another chance of snow showers will develop Saturday with highs topping out in the middle teens. Partly sunny skie! s will return Sunday with highs in the teens.
